Pictured right is the new 7.5 ton lorry which joined the fleet on 11th December.
This is a rather special lorry which is bursting with special features such as:
The latest addition to the Quality Testing Laboratory is the 4 Point bend testing machine.
The machine is designed to test glass samples for tensile bending strength.
This it does by laying a sample of glass on two outer rollers, whilst two inner rollers are brought down to deflect the glass. With the load applied the glass deflects a considerable amount, as can be seen by the examples set out below.
| Thickness | Deflection |
|---|---|
| 4mm | 81mm |
| 12mm | 20mm |
| 25mm | 10mm |
This testing is a requirement for BS EN 12150-2.
The FMF machine has been taken out of service and in its place will go two new straight grinding machines, the Schiatti Fps20R and the Schiatti RI/4M.
The Fps20R is capable of grinding and polishing glass with a thickness of 3 to 20mm. It is also able to process sheets from 150mmx150mm to a maximum weight of 1000kg.
The RI/4M makes the round edge panels and grinds and polishes glass sheets from 3 to 20mm thick.
The machine has a groove diamond wheel and a polishing wheel for grinding & polishing round edges.
The RI/4M can process glass from 150mm x 150mm with no real maximum size.
