Kite Glass welcomes to our facilities The Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade

Earlier this month the Management Team at Kite Glass welcomed The Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch MP and Dr Ben Spencer, our local MP, to our manufacturing and office facilities to discuss some of the challenges that UK manufacturing businesses are now facing.

The visit started with a factory tour to show Kemi the many processes that high-quality laminated glass undertakes to achieve the technical characteristics and standards needed for our products. The tour was hosted by our Operations Director John Storr and gave Kemi and Ben the opportunity to meet with some of our factory staff.

Following the tour, the party adjourned to the Kite Glass board room for an open and frank discussion with our board of directors about the challenges within the glass industry regarding processes, particularly in relation to high energy costs. We also spoke about attracting new talent and employee development. An additional subject we covered was glass usage in high-rise buildings – in particular residential buildings – as a follow-up from the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.

The Kite Glass Directors were all appreciative of the frank responses Kemi gave to our questions and her interest in our industry and business. Concluding the visit, Kite Glass MD Alex Perkins thanked Kemi Badenoch and Dr Spencer for taking the time to visit and learn about us, with all agreeing that the visit was both productive and informative for all parties.
