Voltage Optimisers & Carbon Reduction

Voltage Optimisers & Carbon Reduction

During the early part of 2023, as part of Kite Glass’s carbon reduction process, we undertook a detailed review of our energy consumption. As a manufacturer that needs furnaces that constantly run to help produce our glass products, the cost of energy and how our usage affects CO2 is very important to us. The review of our electricity supply demonstrated that a significant reduction in both CO2 and energy consumption could be achieved if we were to install voltage optimisers.

In seeing the results of our review, we commissioned a specialist company to install two voltage regulators. These would work between the incoming 240-volt electrical supply and the electrical output within our premises to our equipment which generally only needs 220 volts to run efficiently.

Our new voltage optimisers are now fully operational and performing as we had hoped. Not only are they helping with a forecast annual reduction of our CO2 emissions by 45,277 Kg but, importantly, by providing an annual energy saving of over £40,000.
